Online Education Must-Have Checklist: What You Need To Get Started
Make this 2017 a year to remember by setting SMART goals and overcoming challenging obstacles; all whilst improving your career possibilities.
With a brand new year upon us, it’s time to get the show on the road with brand new goals and challenges; including broadening your career opportunities with affordable accredited online courses. However, before taking on this challenge, there are a few things you need to put in place to ensure study success.
They are as follows:
In order to study online, you need to have access to a laptop or similar device that’s able to connect to the internet. You’ll also need a laptop for completing assignments and staying on top of your online course. If purchasing your own new laptop is a bit challenging, why not opt for visiting an internet café or borrowing someone else’s laptop. Alternatively, you can also purchase a second-hand laptop that’s affordable for your pocket.
✓ Study plan
It’s crucial that you have a study plan in place in order to keep track of assignments and daily study tasks. If not, you may find yourself getting behind on assignments and ultimately unable to finish your online course; wasting your own time and money.
Your study plan should consist of:
- Daily to-do lists
- Hours spent on each task
- Allocated breaks
- One simple goal for the course duration
- Revision times
✓ Internet access
Unfortunately, you can’t study online without internet access. As one of the must-have requirements for being successful online, you need to invest in internet access at home or visit an internet café in order to send assignments and participate in online tasks. There are also various public locations which offer free internet access for a certain amount of time.
✓ Study space
It’s advisable to have two separate study spaces which can be used at separate times; moving between each of them once your surroundings no longer stimulate you. Ensure your study space is free from distraction including noise, notifications, and people. Make it comfortable, but not too comfortable which can lead to you falling asleep. Sit up straight when studying, always have a glass of water handy, and keep healthy snacks close.
You simply can’t decide to study online if you don’t have discipline. You’re going to be regulating yourself, making your own list of daily study tasks, having to be dedicated enough to sit down and study without someone keeping an eye on you. If you think you’re able, then go ahead! We believe in you.
✓ SMART goals
It’s important to have weekly, monthly, or annual goals; regardless of whether you decide to study online. If you’re unaware of what SMART goals are, they consist of being:
- S: Specific
- M: Measurable
- A: Attainable
- R: Realistic
- T: Timely
Completing your online course consists of being dedicated to the process. There may be times when you’d want to quit due to time constraints or being tired, but you need to stick with what you started. You’ll thank yourself at the end of the process for pushing through and completing the course.
Make this 2017 a year to remember by setting SMART goals and overcoming challenging obstacles; all whilst improving your career possibilities. Go on, we know you can do it!
